Introduction to Wenshu Monastery

Wenshu Monastery (Wenshu Yuan Monastery), also known as “Kong Lin Hall,” stands as the most well-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu. Facing north to south, it features typical West Sichuan Plain ancient architectural styles, predominantly in wooden structures. The temple has six main halls, reflecting the architectural style of the Qing Dynasty. The design is centered around a main axis, with styles including double-eaved and single-eaved Xieshan roofs, all arranged in an inward-facing layout. The strict hierarchical and rank distinctions in its layout showcase the influence of ritual systems. Wenshu Monastery is a sacred Buddhist site that integrates Zen relics, ancient gardens, pilgrimage, and religious studies.
