Quick Answer: Should You Buy Premier Access or Early Entry?

Popular rides at Shanghai Disneyland often have wait times of around 60 minutes. On peak days, the wait can be much longer. For example, TRON Lightcycle Power Run can reach extremely long waits during busy seasons, sometimes up to around 300 minutes. Because of that, reducing wait time can make your day at Shanghai Disneyland much smoother.

At Shanghai Disneyland, you mainly have two paid options to save time: the Early Park Entry Pass and Disney Premier Access. The Early Park Entry Pass lets you enter the park up to 60 minutes before the published opening time. Disney Premier Access lets you use priority access for selected attractions and can cut a large part of the normal queue time.

• If you can wake up early, walk fast, and stay near Shanghai Disneyland: the Early Park Entry Pass is usually the first option I would consider. It costs much less than most Disney Premier Access packages. With a good route, it can save a lot of time in the morning.
• If you do not want to rush early in the morning, or you travel with kids or seniors: Disney Premier Access feels easier. It may not always offer the best value, but it gives a more comfortable experience. You do not need to fight for the first entry group, and you do not need to speed-walk across the park after entering.
• If you only care about 1–2 headline rides: you do not always need a full package. For example, if you mainly want Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, or TRON Lightcycle Power Run, single-attraction Disney Premier Access may make more sense.
• If you want to cover as many major Shanghai Disneyland rides as possible in one day: the 6-item, 8-item, or 11-item Disney Premier Access packages are better choices. This is especially true during holidays, peak seasons, or one-day visits. A package can reduce a lot of uncertainty during the day.

Before you decide whether to buy Early Entry or Disney Premier Access, check the crowd level for your visit date first. If the park looks quiet, you may not need a large Premier Access package. If it looks busy, paying extra can make much more sense. Check the Shanghai Disneyland crowd forecast

Early Park Entry Pass Guide

The Early Park Entry Pass is one of the best-value paid add-ons at Shanghai Disneyland, at least in my experience. After you buy it, you can enter the park up to one hour before the published opening time. The Early Entry entrance is usually on the far left side of the security area. Staff members will guide you along the way, so keep your QR code ready.

• What it includes: entry to the park up to one hour before the published opening time.
• When you can buy it: you can usually buy it up to 10 days in advance and no later than 30 minutes before park opening. I recommend buying it early. Do not wait until the same day if your visit date looks busy.
• Where to buy it: buy it through the official Shanghai Disney Resort App.
• Price: it usually costs about CNY 159–199 per person. In my opinion, that is very good value. However, the Early Park Entry Pass does not include park admission. You still need a separate Shanghai Disneyland ticket. Compared with single-attraction priority access, it can be much more cost-effective. A single Disney Premier Access ride often costs around CNY 180.
• Best for: visitors who can wake up early and move quickly. I do not strongly recommend it for families with young children or seniors, because you need to walk fast to the first ride. Otherwise, you may lose much of its value.

Is the Early Park Entry Pass Worth It?

If you stay near Shanghai Disneyland, I think it is very worth it. Based on my own Early Entry visits, I usually entered around 7:00–7:30. When operations went smoothly, I could finish Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Soaring Over the Horizon, and Pirates of the Caribbean before 10:00.

After that, the day felt much more relaxed. I could watch shows, take photos, rest, or even repeat some popular attractions. So, if you stay near the resort and can arrive very early, I would seriously consider buying the Early Park Entry Pass. If you stay at an official Disney hotel, check your hotel benefits first. Some hotel packages may already include early entry, so do not buy it twice.

How to Use the Early Park Entry Pass

Buy your Shanghai Disneyland ticket first, no matter which platform you use. Then buy the Early Park Entry Pass, because you need to link it to your park ticket before making the reservation.

• Link your ticket: open the official app, tap “Early Park Entry Pass,” and find “Book Now” near the bottom of the page. Then choose the option to link another annual pass or ticket. Enter the confirmation code that starts with GAL or SHDR. You can usually find this code in your booking platform or order email. After that, confirm the link.
• Book the Early Park Entry Pass: open the app again, tap “Early Park Entry Pass,” then tap “Book Now.” Fill in the required details and complete the payment.
• Enter the park: the Early Entry entrance is usually on the far left side of the security area. Staff members will guide you. Keep your QR code open and ready. After security, you can enter the park as usual.

Best Rides to Do First with Early Entry

If you buy the Early Park Entry Pass, do not wander around after entering. Go straight to the rides where early access saves the most time. I would prioritize these attractions:

• Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: this is one of the longest-wait rides at Shanghai Disneyland. It works very well as your first Early Entry ride. If you visit solo, check whether the single rider line opens that day.
• Zootopia: Hot Pursuit: this ride sits inside Zootopia, far from the entrance, but it has very high demand. If this is your top priority, you can also make it your first stop. When you queue, pay attention to the right-side line if staff open multiple lanes. In some situations, it moves more smoothly.
• Soaring Over the Horizon: this ride often has a long wait, so it makes sense to finish it early. If you can sit near the center, the screen usually looks better. However, the final seat assignment depends on the cast members.
• Roaring Rapids: this is a good summer choice, but bring a poncho. In winter or cold weather, think twice before riding it early. Wet shoes and pants can make the rest of the day uncomfortable.
• Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure: this ride offers an excellent experience, but its average wait time is often lower than the biggest headline rides. I would put it later in the Early Entry route, or do it before the main crowds build up in the morning.

Suggested Early Entry Route

Here is the Early Entry route I would recommend. It works best for visitors who can wake up early, walk fast, and want to finish several major rides in the morning. The idea is simple: finish the biggest rides first, then use the afternoon for shows, parades, rest, extra rides, and photos. Do not waste Early Entry on low-wait attractions.

• 06:00 Arrive at the park entrance.
• 06:30 Start security through the Early Entry entrance.
• 07:15 Ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Estimated wait: around 5 minutes.
• 07:40 Ride Zootopia: Hot Pursuit. Estimated wait: around 20 minutes.
• 08:10 Ride Soaring Over the Horizon. Estimated wait: around 10 minutes.
• 08:40 Ride Roaring Rapids. Estimated wait: around 20 minutes. Wear a poncho. In winter, try not to get your shoes wet.
• 09:30 Ride Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure. Estimated wait: around 40 minutes.
• 10:30–11:00 Watch Eye of the Storm: Captain Jack’s Stunt Spectacular. If you want a better chance of getting a coin, sit near the aisle in the first three rows.
• 11:20 Try the Challenge Trails at Camp Discovery. Estimated wait: around 20 minutes. There are three routes. If you do not want the most intense option, choose the middle route.
• 12:15–12:40 Watch the parade. Arrive around 20 minutes early and find a spot on Mickey Avenue.
• 13:00–14:00 Take a break at Disneytown.
• 15:05 Watch Mickey’s Storybook Adventure. Arrive about 20 minutes early to line up.
• 16:00 Ride Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue. Estimated wait: around 10 minutes.
• 16:30 Ride TRON Lightcycle Power Run. Estimated wait: around 90 minutes.
• 20:30 Ride Rex’s Racer. Estimated wait: around 30 minutes.
• 21:15 Watch the nighttime show and end your Shanghai Disneyland day happily.

Disney Premier Access Guide

After you buy Disney Premier Access, you can enter selected attractions through the priority access entrance. This can save a lot of queue time. For popular rides, it often saves around one hour. Some Disney Premier Access options also include reserved viewing areas for entertainment, such as the nighttime show that many visitors do not want to miss.

• When you can buy it: Disney Premier Access packages usually open for purchase up to 10 days in advance. Single-attraction Premier Access and show access are usually available only on the day of your visit.
• Where to buy it: buy it through the official Shanghai Disney Resort App.
• Price: park admission is not included, so you still need a separate Shanghai Disneyland ticket. Character interactions do not usually have Disney Premier Access. Each included attraction can only be used once.
  • Deluxe Set of 15: includes the Early Park Entry Pass plus 15 attractions and entertainment options. The price is around CNY 2485 per person.
  • Deluxe Set of 11: includes the Early Park Entry Pass plus 11 attractions and entertainment options. The price is around CNY 1895 per person.
  • Carefree Set of 8: includes 8 attractions and entertainment options. The price is around CNY 1099 per person.
  • Carefree Set of 6: includes 6 attractions and entertainment options. The price is around CNY 799 per person.
  • Carefree Set of 3: includes 3 attractions and entertainment options. The price is around CNY 395 per person.
  • Adventure Set of 6: includes 6 attractions and entertainment options. The price is around CNY 799 per person.
  • dventure Set of 3A / 3B: includes 3 attractions and entertainment options. The price is around CNY 395 per person.
  • Single-attraction Disney Premier Access: usually costs around CNY 150–180 per attraction per person.
• Who should buy it: if you want to do many rides, I would strongly consider buying either the Early Park Entry Pass or Disney Premier Access. Without one of them, you may spend a large part of the day in queues. Disney does try to make the queue areas less boring, but standing for hours still feels tiring.

Is Disney Premier Access Worth It?

If you visit Shanghai Disneyland on a weekend, public holiday, school break, summer vacation, or special event day, I think Disney Premier Access is worth considering. I would also consider it if you only have one day and want to ride several major attractions.

The popular rides at Shanghai Disneyland can have serious wait times. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, TRON Lightcycle Power Run, and Soaring Over the Horizon often sit around 50–80 minutes on normal busy days. During peak seasons, some waits can climb to 2–3 hours or even longer.

However, you do not always need a big package. If you visit on a low-crowd weekday, arrive early, and plan your route well, the regular standby lines can still work. If your budget is limited, start with the Early Park Entry Pass or buy only 1–2 single-attraction Premier Access options for the rides you care about most.

Disney Premier Access Package Comparison and Chart

Shanghai Disneyland offers several Disney Premier Access packages. To choose the right one, you need to look at the ride list, average wait times, single-attraction Premier Access prices, and your own priorities.

I made a detailed comparison chart below. After the chart, I will explain which package I would recommend for different types of visitors.

3-Item Packages

The 3-item packages cost around CNY 395–399 per person. I do not usually recommend them first. Many included rides do not always have very long waits, so the value can feel weak.

There are exceptions, of course. If you visit on an unusually crowded day, or if the package includes exactly the three rides you want, it may still work. Otherwise, I would usually buy single-attraction Disney Premier Access instead.

6-Item and 8-Item Packages

The 6-item and 8-item packages work well for many families, couples, and friend groups. They usually include 3–4 major attractions, so they cover much of the core Shanghai Disneyland experience.

If you enjoy thrill rides and visit in summer, the Adventure Set of 6 may be better than the Carefree 6-item or 8-item options. It gives more value if you plan to ride coasters and water rides.

11-Item and 15-Item Deluxe Packages

The 11-item and 15-item Deluxe packages offer the easiest Shanghai Disneyland experience. They suit visitors with a higher budget, especially those who want to cover almost everything in one day.

With these packages, ride waits become much shorter, and show viewing can also feel easier. Even on peak days, they can make the park feel much more manageable.

Between the two, the Deluxe Set of 11 is often better for adults, couples, and friends. The Deluxe Set of 15 adds more attractions that younger kids may enjoy, so it can make more sense for families or visitors who want broader coverage.

How to Use Disney Premier Access

First, link your Shanghai Disneyland ticket in the official app. After that, you can buy Disney Premier Access through the app.

• Link your ticket: open the official Shanghai Disney Resort App and tap “Disney Premier Access.” Choose the package you want, then select the option to link another annual pass or ticket. Enter the confirmation code that starts with GAL or SHDR. You can usually find this code in your booking platform or order email. Then confirm the link.
• Book Disney Premier Access: open the app, tap “Disney Premier Access,” choose your visit date and package, then complete the payment.
• Use Disney Premier Access: go to “My Itinerary” in the app and find your Disney Premier Access QR code. When you arrive at the attraction, enter through the priority access queue and show the QR code to the cast member.
• Usage rule: each included attraction can only be used once.

Suggested Route with Disney Premier Access

With Disney Premier Access, your day at Shanghai Disneyland feels much easier. You do not need to rush as much, and you can move through the park in a more natural order.

I would usually start from Zootopia, then move toward Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Roaring Rapids, Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, Rex’s Racer, and TRON Lightcycle Power Run. After that, you can fill in smaller rides and end the night with the fireworks show.

A sample route could look like this:

Zootopia: Hot Pursuit → Hunny Pot Spin → Seven Dwarfs Mine Train → Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure → Soaring Over the Horizon → Roaring Rapids → Voyage to the Crystal Grotto → Slinky Dog Spin → Rex’s Racer → TRON Lightcycle Power Run → Jet Packs → Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue → Mickey meet-and-greet → Dumbo the Flying Elephant → Fantasia Carousel → ILLUMINATE! Best Attractions to Prioritize

If you plan to buy the Early Park Entry Pass or Disney Premier Access, do not try to save time on every ride. Instead, focus on the attractions where priority access actually matters.

Some Shanghai Disneyland rides offer a great experience and also draw long queues. These work well in the first half of an Early Entry route, or as top choices for single-attraction Premier Access. Other rides are still worth doing, but I would not always pay extra for them. Here are the attractions I would prioritize first.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is one of the most popular family coasters at Shanghai Disneyland. It has a mild thrill level, so it works well for families, first-time visitors, and guests who want a fun coaster without anything too intense. Its average wait time is around 83 minutes, which makes it one of the longest-wait rides in the park.

If you buy the Early Park Entry Pass, this ride works very well as your first stop. On a high-crowd day, I would also consider single-attraction Disney Premier Access. For families with kids who meet the height requirement, this ride deserves a high priority.

Zootopia: Hot Pursuit

Zootopia: Hot Pursuit is one of the hottest attractions at Shanghai Disneyland right now. It combines story, scenery, and a chase-style ride experience, so it appeals to both kids and adults. Its average wait time is around 71 minutes. Also, Zootopia sits far from the main entrance, so the queue can build quickly after park opening.

If this is your must-do ride, you can make it your first or second stop with Early Entry. For Disney Premier Access, I see Zootopia: Hot Pursuit as one of the strongest choices. It makes even more sense during peak seasons, one-day visits, or family trips.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run

TRON Lightcycle Power Run is one of the signature thrill rides at Shanghai Disneyland. It has strong speed, a cool visual style, and a more intense feel than most family rides. I would recommend it more for adults and teens who enjoy thrill rides. Its average wait time is around 59 minutes, but the wait can rise a lot during peak seasons. On extreme crowd days, it can take several hours.

If you love thrill rides, TRON is absolutely worth doing. If the park looks busy and you do not want to spend a long time in line, single-attraction Premier Access can make sense. For an Early Entry route, I would not always put it first. You can plan it for late morning or the afternoon, depending on the wait time in the app.

Soaring Over the Horizon

Soaring Over the Horizon is a classic immersive flying experience. It is not a thrill ride, but the visuals, music, and flying feeling make it popular with a wide range of guests. Its average wait time is around 54 minutes, and the queue often stays long because almost everyone can enjoy it.

If you buy the Early Park Entry Pass, Soaring Over the Horizon fits well after Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Zootopia: Hot Pursuit. For Disney Premier Access, I would give it a higher priority if you travel with kids, seniors, or people who do not want to ride TRON-style thrill attractions.

Roaring Rapids

Roaring Rapids is a water ride in Adventure Isle. It has some thrill, and it feels especially fun in summer. However, you may get your clothes and shoes wet. Its average wait time is around 42 minutes, but the line can become longer on hot days, holidays, and summer weekends.

In summer, you can add Roaring Rapids to your morning Early Entry route. In winter or cold weather, I would not rush to ride it too early. Whether Disney Premier Access is worth it depends on how much you want to do a water ride. If you do not want to get wet, lower its priority.

Rex’s Racer

Rex’s Racer is a thrill ride in Toy Story Land. It has a strong drop-and-swing feeling, so it works best for guests who enjoy intense rides. It may not suit visitors who dislike heights, strong swinging, or that floating feeling in the stomach. Its average wait time is around 49 minutes, and the queue can also get long during busy periods.

If you enjoy thrill rides, Rex’s Racer is worth adding to your plan. If you travel with kids, or if some people in your group do not like intense rides, you can lower its priority. For Disney Premier Access, I would mainly recommend it to thrill-ride fans. I would not call it a must-buy for every visitor.
