Adventure Isle

Step into Adventure Isle at Shanghai Disneyland and enter an original themed environment built around Roaring Mountain, waterfalls, rivers, caves and expedition camps. Along with the popular Soaring Over the Horizon and Roaring Rapids, the land features Camp Discovery, a children's exploration area, outdoor music performances, dining, shopping and plenty of nature-inspired photo opportunities. Adventure Isle is worth treating as a complete stop in your itinerary rather than simply visiting for one attraction.

About Adventure Isle at Shanghai Disneyland

Adventure Isle is located along one side of the central area of Shanghai Disneyland. Towering Roaring Mountain forms the heart of the land, surrounded by waterfalls, waterways, rock walls, rope bridges, caves and expedition camps. Unlike lands adapted from a single Disney movie, Adventure Isle has its own original setting, inviting guests to explore forests, waterways and ancient ruins as adventurers.

Roaring Mountain is the land's most recognizable landmark. Roaring Rapids travels around the mountain and surrounding waterways, taking guests aboard circular rafts through dark caves and into an encounter with a mysterious giant creature hidden inside the mountain. Soaring Over the Horizon is located closer to the park's central walkway and uses suspended seating, a massive domed screen, wind effects and scents to simulate a flight around the world.

Camp Discovery is one of the experiences that most clearly separates Adventure Isle from other themed lands. Guests can choose the Challenge Trails, which include ropes, elevated pathways and obstacles, or follow the Vista Trail for views of waterfalls, rock formations and Roaring Mountain. The land also includes a Junior Adventurers Camp designed for younger children. Shanghai Disneyland currently lists Soaring Over the Horizon, Roaring Rapids, the Camp Discovery Challenge Trails, the Vista Trail and Junior Adventurers Camp as Adventure Isle experiences.

Beyond the attractions, Adventure Isle currently offers outdoor performances by the Disney Explorers Band, Duffy and Friends Celebration Hall, Chip & Dale's Kitchen, the Duffy and Friends Celebration Hall Shop, Neon Frog Gifts and Chip & Dale's Trading Post. Entertainment, dining and store operating arrangements may change with the season and daily operations.

Location inside Shanghai Disneyland: Adventure Isle is located near the Gardens of Imagination and Treasure Cove, and requires some walking from the park entrance. Because Soaring Over the Horizon and Roaring Rapids can both develop long lines, it is best to plan the major attractions, Camp Discovery, dining and photos together based on their current waits rather than returning several times throughout the day.

Take Photos Around Roaring Mountain and the Waterfalls

Roaring Mountain, waterfalls, waterways, rock walls, Camp Discovery and rope bridges are some of Adventure Isle's most recognizable photo backgrounds. Daytime is best for mountain and water details, while the softer evening light works well for photographing Roaring Mountain and the surrounding vegetation. The ground near Roaring Rapids may be wet during rainy weather, so watch your footing.

Is Adventure Isle Suitable for Children?

Adventure Isle is suitable for families, but its major experiences have different height requirements. Whether a child will enjoy them also depends on their comfort with heights, darkness, splashes and outdoor challenges.

Soaring Over the Horizon requires guests to be at least 102 cm tall. It does not use a high-speed roller-coaster track, but the seats rise above the floor, guests' feet dangle and the screen includes elevated flying and diving visuals. Children who are afraid of heights, darkness or large moving images may feel nervous.

Roaring Rapids requires guests to be at least 107 cm tall and includes a spinning circular raft, fast-moving water, dark caves, loud sounds, noticeable drops and heavy splashes. Even children who meet the height requirement should understand that they may become very wet.

The Camp Discovery Challenge Trails require guests to be at least 106 cm tall and include elevated pathways and obstacles. Children who do not want to participate or do not meet the height requirement can choose the Vista Trail and Junior Adventurers Camp, both of which have no minimum height requirement.

Even when children cannot experience Soaring Over the Horizon, Roaring Rapids or the Challenge Trails, Adventure Isle still offers Junior Adventurers Camp, scenic walking routes, music performances, dining and photo opportunities. They will not need to spend the entire visit waiting at attraction exits.

A Good Strategy for First-Time Visitors

Adventure Isle's main experiences are Soaring Over the Horizon, Roaring Rapids and Camp Discovery. On a first visit, decide the order of Soaring and Roaring Rapids based on their waits, then fit Camp Discovery, dining and photos between them or afterward.

Using an Early Park Entry Pass

With an Early Park Entry Pass, head to Adventure Isle early and prioritize Soaring Over the Horizon. Soaring Over the Horizon has a reference average wait of approximately 54 minutes, while Roaring Rapids averages approximately 42 minutes. Under normal conditions, it makes sense to complete Soaring first because it attracts a broader audience and usually has the longer average wait, then continue to Roaring Rapids.

After completing both major attractions, schedule Camp Discovery based on your energy level and the weather. The Challenge Trails, Vista Trail and photography usually do not need to use the most valuable Early Entry time and can be saved until after the official park opening.

During hot weather, riding Roaring Rapids earlier gives wet clothing more time to dry naturally. During cold weather, or when you do not want to spend the day in wet clothes, bring a poncho or skip the attraction based on your personal comfort level.

Without an Early Park Entry Pass

Without Early Entry, use the following approach:

  • Prioritize Soaring Over the Horizon when the standby wait is manageable.
  • When the wait for Soaring is too long, check Roaring Rapids or Camp Discovery first.
  • Ride Roaring Rapids first when its wait is short and the weather is suitable.
  • Consider Disney Premier Access when your time in the park is limited or standby waits remain long.
  • Camp Discovery can usually be scheduled between the two popular attractions and does not need to be your first stop.
  • Save enough energy for the Challenge Trails, and avoid attempting them immediately after a large meal.
  • During hot weather, schedule the indoor Soaring Over the Horizon during the hottest part of the day.
  • Thunderstorms, strong winds and severe weather may affect Roaring Rapids and some outdoor experiences, so do not leave all of them until just before park closing.
  • Guests who do not want to complete the rope challenges can use the Vista Trail for photos and views of the land.

How Much Time Should You Allow?

  • Soaring Over the Horizon only: Allow the actual wait plus approximately 20–30 minutes to enter and complete the attraction.
  • Soaring Over the Horizon and Roaring Rapids: Allow approximately 1.5–3 hours, depending on the waits for both attractions.
  • Adding Camp Discovery and a brief exploration of the land: Allow approximately 2.5–4 hours.
  • Adding a complete meal, shopping, music performances and photos: Allow approximately 3–4.5 hours in total.
