Summary
Beiling Park Introduction
Beiling Park is named after Zhaoling Mausoleum, the imperial tomb located inside the park, which is also known locally as Beiling. The park covers an area of 3.3 million square meters. It was originally built as a royal burial site and later turned into a public park, and today it is rated as a AAAA-level tourist attraction in China. Zhaoling Mausoleum is the tomb of Huang Taiji, the second emperor of the Qing Dynasty, and his empress Xiaoduanwen. The layout of the mausoleum follows the traditional Chinese imperial tomb structure known as “front court and rear burial area.” All main buildings stand along a central axis, while structures on both sides follow a symmetrical layout. The design draws inspiration from the Ming imperial tombs while also showing distinctive Manchu characteristics, making it a classic example of the integration of Manchu and Han architectural traditions.
Zhaoling Mausoleum is the largest, most magnificent, and most representative imperial tomb among the Three Imperial Tombs outside the Shanhai Pass from the early Qing Dynasty. It is also one of the best-preserved ancient imperial mausoleum complexes in China. In addition to the emperor and empress, there was once another imperial concubine cemetery about one hundred meters west of the red wall, where eleven imperial consorts were buried, including Consort Chen of Guansui Palace, Noble Consort of Linzhi Palace, and Consort Shu of Yanqing Palace.
