Hey everyone, I’m Alex Chen, a backpacker from China who loves traveling off the beaten path. I enjoy exploring hidden corners around the world and, at the same time, sharing tips on how to travel across China on a budget. Today, I want to take you on a fun journey to Shanghai Legoland Resort—a place where kids can play to their heart’s content and adults can relive their childhood memories.

Introduction to Shanghai Legoland Resort

Shanghai Legoland Resort is the 11th Legoland park worldwide, the first one in China, and also one of the largest Legoland Resorts globally. This theme park is designed especially for families with kids aged 2 to 12, making it an ideal destination for young children and their parents.

In China, compared to Shanghai Disneyland and Universal Studios Beijing, Shanghai Legoland is far more child-friendly. And for Lego enthusiasts, this place feels like a true paradise, filled with countless attractions and larger-than-life Lego creations.

Book Legoland FASTTRACK to Skip the Queues

If you’re visiting on a Saturday or Sunday, buying the FASTTRACK is worth considering. On weekdays, however, I don’t recommend it since the park usually isn’t very crowded. Because the resort is located outside downtown Shanghai and transportation is still limited, waiting times remain short—most rides require less than 30 minutes even during busy hours.

Do note that the FASTTRACK can only be purchased on the day of your visit. My tip: check the lines first before deciding.

  • Single-Ride FASTTRACK: 78 CNY per ride (same price for adults and children). Valid for the main attractions.
  • Unlimited FASTTRACK: 788 CNY (same price for adults and children). Covers all major rides.

Download the Shanghai Legoland Resort App

One of the best tips I can give: download the official Shanghai Legoland Resort App. It shows live wait times for each ride, performance schedules, and restaurant locations. Honestly, it’s a must-have for making the most of your day.

Park Regulations

Before packing your bag, here are some rules you should keep in mind:

  • You can bring snacks like cookies or bread, but I recommend trying at least one of the park’s restaurants for the experience.
  • No glass bottles.
  • Drones are not allowed.
  • Suitcases larger than 46 cm x 33 cm x 20 cm must be stored and cannot enter the park.
  • Folding chairs and stools are prohibited.
  • Selfie sticks are restricted—short ones might get in, but long ones won’t. Technically, selfie sticks aren’t allowed at all, so it’s better not to bring them.

Locker and Storage Services

Yes, there are lockers available inside Shanghai Legoland Resort. Right after entering, you’ll find self-service lockers where you can store bags. However, I recommend using the storage facilities at Jinshan North Railway Station instead. It’s cheaper and more convenient if you’re traveling by train, since you won’t need to carry your luggage to the park.

  • Legoland Locker Prices:
    • Large: 80 CNY/day (fits two carry-on suitcases and one large bag)
    • Medium: 60 CNY/day
    • Small: 40 CNY/day
  • Jinshan North Railway Station Locker Prices:
    • 10–20 CNY/day. Storage shops are conveniently located to the right as you exit the station.

One-Day Itinerary: How to Experience All the Rides

The great news about Shanghai Legoland Resort is that one full day is enough to enjoy almost everything. Thanks to relatively short lines, you can cover all the highlights without rushing. Here’s my recommended route:

  • 10:00 AM – Driving School (kids drive mini cars on city roads)
  • 10:20 AM – Rescue Academy (parents help children put out a fire)
  • 10:40 AM – Lego Mega Coaster (a world-first ride weaving through giant Lego figures)
  • 11:00 AM – Miniland (millions of Lego bricks recreate world landmarks and famous Chinese cities)
  • 11:30 AM – Jet Ski Chase (stand-up style motorboats—great fun!)
  • 12:00 PM – Chef Zhu’s Food Court (grab lunch and rest a little)
  • 1:30 PM – Ninjago Adventure (4D interactive ride where you shoot fireballs at enemies)
  • 2:00 PM – Jade Dragon Power (swing ride in the sky)
  • 4:00 PM – Duplo Express (a gentle train ride for young kids)
  • 4:30 PM – Dragon Coaster (a family-friendly coaster with Lego character storytelling)
  • 5:00 PM – Wizard’s Flying Machine (a spinning aerial ride)
  • 5:30 PM – Legoland Boat Ride (sail through the Lego water village)

Dining Recommendations at Shanghai Legoland Resort

The resort features four main restaurants, each located in different themed lands:

  • Hungry Dino Chef (in Bricktopia)
    • Personally, I think this one offers the best value. Their Wagyu Beef Bacon Cheeseburger Set comes with fries, corn, and a drink, and it’s filling for an adult. The menu also has avocado shrimp burgers and other western-style options. The burgers are not only tasty but also Instagram-worthy with their Lego-inspired look.
    • Recommended: Wagyu Bacon Cheeseburger, Tomato Meatballs with Rice
  • Lego® City Restaurant (in Lego City)
    • This is an all-you-can-eat buffet. You’ll find plenty of pizzas fresh from the oven, along with pasta, snacks, fruits, and ice cream. Great for those with a big appetite or anyone craving western comfort food.
    • Prices: Adults 168 CNY, Children 108 CNY (90-minute limit)
  • Chef Zhu’s Food Court (in Monkie Kid World)
    • If you prefer Chinese cuisine, this is the spot. The noodle bowls and fried rice shaped like Chef Zhu are fun and surprisingly tasty. Dishes like braised beef noodles, curry chicken, and fish are solid choices. They also serve some local snacks from Jinshan. The downside? It’s the priciest restaurant in the park.
    • Recommended: Sweet and Sour Shrimp with Steamed Egg and Rice, Peach Cake shaped like Chef Zhu
  • Knight’s Banquet (in Lego Castle)
    • Specializing in fried chicken and burgers, this place is famous for its Fried Pork Belly Burger with Fermented Bean Curd Sauce. Honestly, the bean curd flavor isn’t for everyone, but it’s unique. Prices are reasonable, and portions are large enough for adults.
    • Recommended: Fried Pork Belly Burger, Creamy Mushroom Chicken with Rice

Where to Stay Near Shanghai Legoland Resort

Currently, there is only one official hotel at Shanghai Legoland Resort. If your budget allows, it’s absolutely worth the experience.

Shanghai Legoland Hotel

Shanghai Legoland Hotel family room
  • Location: Right next to the park entrance
  • Average Price per Night: 1270 CNY
  • Check Rates: Trip Deals
  • Rating: 9.3 on Trip
  • Special Features: Family rooms designed with kids in mind

The hotel’s location is unbeatable—just a two-minute walk to the park, and you can even see the attractions from your room. Step outside, and you’ll find yourself in a shopping area. The lobby and public spaces are decorated in bright dopamine colors, with massive Lego planet sculptures, life-sized Lego builds, play centers, and themed staircases. The hallways are lined with one of the largest Lego minifigure collections you’ll ever see.

Rooms are themed after Lego City, with children’s areas designed like a firetruck, complete with bunk beds and a Lego brick pool for play. Kids can also enjoy a treasure hunt in the room—solve the puzzle and open a safe for a surprise gift! Each room has two TVs playing Lego cartoons and even Lego sets to build with. The soundproofing is excellent, making it comfortable for families.

8 Themed Lands in Shanghai Legoland Resort

When you first enter, don’t rush straight to the rides. I recommend grabbing a park map or downloading the official app. The resort is divided into eight themed lands, designed like giant Lego puzzle pieces. With kids, it’s best to plan your route ahead—it saves time and energy (trust me, parents will thank me later 😂).

Legoland Hotel

If you’re staying overnight, the Legoland Hotel itself is an attraction. Themed with Lego everywhere from the lobby to the rooms, kids can play in dedicated activity zones while parents enjoy family-friendly service.

This is where imagination comes alive. Kids can explore interactive rides and hands-on areas, building cars and testing them on racetracks. Parents call this a lifesaver—it keeps kids busy for hours.

Lego Friends Zone

Designed with the Lego Friends series in mind, this pastel-colored area is filled with stages and mini-performances. While it feels girly at first, boys won’t be bored—many activities are gender-neutral. Great for photo ops as well.

Lego Castle

Step into a medieval fairytale world with knights, dragons, and castles. The highlight is the castle-themed roller coaster and adventure rides, popular with older kids and adults.

Lego Ninjago World

Ninja fans will love this one. Based on the Lego Ninjago series, the attractions are highly interactive—you’ll use hand gestures to launch “energy blasts” and defeat enemies. It’s a workout but a lot of fun.

Miniland (Brick Street)

The central hub of the resort and the “front door.” Filled with restaurants, shops, and souvenir stores, this is where most families stop first. Beware: kids might get stuck here browsing the endless Lego toys before you even start your day.

Is Shanghai Legoland Resort worth visiting?

If you’re traveling with kids between the ages of 2 and 12, the answer is absolutely yes. The park is designed entirely for children, with safe yet creative rides. Parents can join in too, so you won’t get bored. For Lego fans, this is a must-visit—just seeing the massive Lego models is an adventure in itself. That said, if you’re an adult without kids and not a big Lego fan, you may find the attractions a bit too child-oriented.

How many days do I need in Shanghai Legoland Resort?

Usually, one full day is enough. The park isn’t overly large, and with a good plan, you can cover all the main attractions.
